Buenos Aires Tango World Cup 2018 on fire

From 9 to 22 August 2018 The Tango Festival and World Tango Championship begins with more than 130 concerts

On August 9th,2018 a new edition of the Tango Festival and World Tango Championship will begin, which will last until August 22nd in 40 venues and with proposals for all tastes and ages.
The bandoneon player Néstor Marconi will be in charge of the opening at the Usina del Arte.

There will be two weeks of two thousand national and international artists, 130 concerts, dance classes and open microphone for those who dare to sing in a kind of 2X4 karaoke. It will also be possible to be in the qualifying rounds and semifinals of Track Tango and Stage Tango (at the Usina del Arte) and in the finals, at the Luna Park Stadium, where some 500 couples will participate. And all for free.
La Usina, the headquarters of La Movida, will also present a cross between hip hop, rap and literature with tango prose and lunfardo. This will be as part of a program developed in the Art in Neighborhoods Program workshops. The opening concert, tomorrow at 8 pm at the Usina, will be given by maestro Néstor Marconi, playing with artists of different ages.

Another of the outstanding activities: on August 20th, at the Usina, Susana Rinaldi and Osvaldo Piro will present a special production that may be the last of this musical society. This year, Rinaldi and Piro joined forces at the Teatro Coliseo to pay homage to Aníbal Troilo.

"But this will be completely different," anticipates Susana Rinaldi. "What are we going to do? I've never in my entire career been ahead of what I'm going to do in a show, much less now. At 82 it's not like it's at 70, and the human voice makes it possible for you to have problems like a cold, which modifies your plans. The interesting thing about this is that it may be that this presentation, together with Osvaldo, will serve to put a professional finishing touch to our concept meeting. This is an exceptional thing. We'd like you to come because this may be the last time.

On the other hand, and continuing with the festival, on Tuesday the 14th, Gabriel Mores will pay tribute to his grandfather, the tango maestro Mariano Mores a hundred years after his birth. In closing, on Wednesday 22, Franco Luciani, an exponent of a new generation, will have as a special guest Amelita Baltar, who celebrates her 50th birthday with the tango and the premiere of María de Buenos Aires and "Chiquilín de Bachín".

For the younger ones there will be a cycle, "La Mar en Coche", which will offer a related proposal with two shows Margaritas- Títeres y Tango and Somos Tango-Orquesta Didáctica. In addition, dance classes for children.

"Sing at the festival" will be a kind of singing show, there will be an open microphone directly for all those who are animated. In total, and as if the event were an octopus of a thousand tentacles, photo exhibitions are announced, dance exhibitions in milongas of the city, interventions in places such as Ezeiza airport, subway stations or train cars of the Mitre Railway.

The 25 de Mayo Cultural Center will host three days of choreographic performances with dance shows: Génesis Tango, Noche de Tango Escénico and Social Tango.

The 2x4 radio will broadcast live from the plant. At the same time, clinics and activities will be organized in the city's most important bars.

Tickets for the shows programmed at the Usina del Arte (Chamber Hall and Auditorium), Centro Cultural 25 de Mayo, Belgrano Auditorium, Teatro Margarita Xirgu - Espacio UNTREF and La Academia Tango Club, are free of charge and may be collected, from two hours before each performance, at the information booths at each venue. Two tickets per person will be issued until capacity is exhausted. The clinics do not require any kind of prior registration. For the Dance World Cup, the entrance foreseen in the qualifying rounds does not foresee the previous withdrawal of tickets and will only be entered on a first come, first served basis.
